    Red White and Blueberry Milkshake

Ingredients in Red White and Blueberry Milkshake

    • Vanilla ice cream: Make sure to use a good quality vanilla ice cream for the best flavor and texture. You can use low-fat or sugar-free alternatives if preferred, but it may affect the overall creaminess and taste.
    • Milk: Any type of milk can be used - whole milk, 2% milk, non-fat, or even dairy-free alternatives like almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, or oat milk. Adjust the amount of milk based on your desired consistency. If you prefer a thicker milkshake, use less milk, and if you want it thinner, add more.
    • Food gel: To get the bold blue and red colors, I added a little bit of colored food gel. Add a few drops at a time until you reach your desired shade.  Alternatively, you can just use the strawberry and blueberry pie filling for coloring. (I use this brand of food coloring gels)
    • Pie filling: You can use store-bought strawberry and blueberry pie filling for convenience, or you can make your own by cooking down fresh strawberries and blueberries with sugar until thickened. (I use this brand of pie filling)
    • Whipped cream: You can use store-bought whipped cream or make your own by whipping heavy cream with a sweetener like sugar or powdered sugar.

How to make a Strawberry Blueberry Milkshake

2 layered milkshakes - red, white, and blue, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles.

    Step By Step Instructions

STEP 1: Add 6 scoops of ice cream, one cup of milk, the strawberry pie filling, and 3 to 4 drops of red gel food coloring to a blender. Blend until well combined and smooth. Split between two glasses and place in the freezer to chill while you prepare the next batch.

STEP 2: Add 6 scoops of ice cream, and one cup of milk to the blender and blend until smooth. Remove the glasses from the freezer and pour the mixture on top of the red layer. Place the glasses back in the freezer.

STEP 3: Add the remaining 6 scoops of ice cream, one cup of milk, the blueberry pie filling and 3 to 4 drops of blue gel food coloring to the blender. Blend until well combined and smooth. Remove the glasses from the freezer and pour the mixture on top of the white layer.

STEP 4: Top each milkshake with whipped cream and sprinkles.

    Recipe Tips and Variations

    • Make it boozy: For an adult twist, add a splash of your favorite liquor, such as coconut rum, to create a boozy red, white, and blueberry milkshake. (Try this Orange Creamsicle Cocktail)
    • Thickness: Adjust the amount of milk to achieve your desired thickness. Less milk will result in a thicker milkshake, while more milk will make it thinner.
    • Garnish: Garnish this strawberry blueberry milkshake with fresh berries or mint leaves for an added pop of color and freshness.
    • Swap out the pie filling: You can swap out the pie fillings with fresh or frozen berries. Cook them down with a sweetener like sugar or honey to achieve the desired sweetness and consistency. Let cool before blending with ice cream.
